Integrated Person-Centered Health Care for All Women During Pregnancy: Implementing World Health Organization Recommendations on Antenatal Care for a Positive Pregnancy Experience

In 2015, Unnited Nations member states adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to continue the momentum of the Milennium Development Goals and address a broarder range of development issues. The World Health Organization (WHO) identified target 3.8, universal health coverage, as the key to achieving all other health-related SDGs. To that end, Every Woman Every Child movement developed the Global Strategy for Women´s, Children´s, and Adolescentss´Health (2016-2030) with the aim of ending all preventable deaths of women, children, and adolescents and ensuring their health and well-being. The strategy provides a framework for countries to achieve the highest attainable standards of health for all women, children, and adolescents to  "Survive, Thrive and Transform".

International healthcare worker migration in Asia Pacific: International policy responses

The growth of the international migration of health workers in recent decades has taken place in the context of the transnationalisation of healthcare provision as well as of governance and policy responses. This paper examines international policy responses to cross-border health worker migration in the Asia Pacific region. These include multilateral (global and regional) and bilateral policy agreements, policy dialogue, "circular" and key themes of health workforce planning and management.

Effects of Training Health Workers in Integrated Management of Childhood Illness on Quality of Care for Under-5 Children in Primary Healthcare Facilities in Afghanistan

Training courses in integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI) have been conducted for health workers for nearly one and half decades in Afghanistan. The objective of the training courses is to improve quality of care in terms of health workers communication skills and clinical performance when they provide health services for under-5 children in public healthcare facilities. This paper presents the findings on the effects of IMCI training courses on quality of care in public primary healthcare facilities in Afghanistan.

Patient experience of an integrated care model in a family practice clinic and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)

Behavioral health issues are daily challenges in all primary care settings. The integration of programs and strategies translates into better global results, which optimizes the effort of health workers. In this study, user satisfaction is evaluated, through validated surveys, in 727 patients from different centers, family practice clinic and a Federally Qualified Health Center.

Performance management in primary healthcare: Nurses’ experiences

The use of the performance management (PM) system is highly contested by public servants in South Africa, although its value as essential to the appraisal and management of staff is undeniable. Before considering the integration of a system or parts of a health system, a diagnosis must be made to assess how segmented it is. The vision of health professionals is essential to obtain a panoramic view of the situation.

The aim of study was to explore nurses’ perceptions and experiences of the PM system at primary healthcare (PHC) facilities in relation to the current health system’s reforms.

Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for Universal Health Coverage

The goal of this Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for UHC is to advance improvements in health and progress towards UHC through aligning health worker education approaches with population health needs and health system demands. More specifically, the primary objective of this document is to provide guidance for the specification of pre-service and in-service competency-based education outcomes for health workers, which in turn inform the development of relevant curricula, learning activities and assessment approaches. Its main target audience is health workforce educators, but it can be of relevance also for licensing and regulatory authorities and health service and facility managers. With this framework, WHO sets out its recommended approach to competency-based health worker education outcomes; in so doing, it also provides conceptual and terminological clarity.
